Not even cancer could’ve stopped artist Dirk Vanzuuk from catching the premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road. Especially not when he had his own post-apocalyptic Camaro to get him there.
Dirk bought this 1969 Camaro ten years ago and built it into a road racing weapon with over 500 horsepower. He had looked forward to racing it across America, but when he got injured during a go-kart accident earlier this year, doctors found tumors in his neck.
Dirk was in the hospital recovering, but he looked forward to leaving just in time for the New York premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road. He missed that event, but he still made it out of the hospital for opening weekend. And what did he bring?
His Camaro, of course, now with a road warrior vibe: he added the right patina, Solo cup velocity stacks, spikes in the grille, and a human skull in the front that may as well be real. Rock on, Dirk. The wasteland needs you.
