The relentless march of progress waits for no one. In this video, the folks at Edmunds pit a 1966 Corvette Stingray—one of their many fun long-term cars—against a 2015 Toyota Camry. After 50 years of progress, what’s faster?
At Willow Springs Raceway, driver Carlos Lago (formerly of Motor Trend) pushes the 1966 Corvette Stingray to its limits. Equipped with a 327 engine, the Stingray is a visceral and audial delight. Its rival Camry has a V6 engine, the biggest engine option for the model, and it pushes 268 horsepower. Nothing to sneer at.
Progress? If you’re thinking that by the numbers, then certainly. The fact that the once-impressive numbers laid down by a slinky sports car can now be matched by your mom’s family sedan is worth mentioning, to say the least. But remember: the march of progress doesn’t heed the significance of legends.
