The Grand Parkway toll road, which opened last year, connects west Houston to Highway 290, which then goes to Austin and Waco. Its speed limit is usually 70mph. John Hennessey went slightly over the limit—he hit 200.6mph.
This wasn’t some fly by night operation. Hennessey managed to convince TxDOT officials to shut down the road and help them test their EZ Tag electronic toll system. And TxDOT CEO Ted Houghton was on hand with officials from TxDOT, Texas DPS and TransCore to witness the record—the first C7 Corvette to break 200mph.
With 700 horsepower, the Corvette received the HPE600 supercharger, and then received another 100 horsepower thanks to a Nitrous Express kit. And that’s how you make a C7 go 200 mph—and convince Texas officials to close down the highway.
